Meditation Mama - Introduction Post

 


I am stressed, tired and lacking joy day after day. Each day I am in a fog, I'm going through the motions to ensure that my family has a home, clean clothes, healthy meals and really anything that they can ask for. I am driving to work the same way, using the same streets, seeing the same things and following the same rules. I lead over 90 staff members and support over 500 students as an elementary principal. I should feel super successful and excited to begin my day in the morning. However, more and more, I just want to stay in bed, but with all the responsibilities in life, it seems impossible to have time for me. 

When I truly feel engaged with life and fulfilled is when I am in nature, when I can move my body with purpose and intention, when I read and grow intellectually, when I focus on my breath and just BE 

It isn't easy finding time to do these things, or not to feel guilty when I do take time for myself instead of being with my children, husband, family and colleagues. But for my sanity, I need to engage with myself more and truly find what brings me joy and calm. 

One of the most simplest ways that I feel that calm is through meditation. It might be in the shower in the morning, driving to work, sitting in my office by myself for 5 minutes to just recognize my breath, body and thoughts. 

I am by no means a meditation guru or even a role model, I'm just trying to reinvigorate my life passion, self-confidence and balancing it all with being a mom and educator. I'll share my stories, triumphs, struggles and tools that I use to bring myself back to calm. Hopefully some of these will help you by relating or learning from my mistakes.
